Officer Shannon Porter

What are the classical crime prevention theories? What is the safest kind of lock? In a sex assault case, what do you never do?

Those are just some of the questions Shelby Police's Shannon Porter had to answer in order to pass a tough week-long course in Asheville and receive international certification in crime prevention.
72 officers from across the state applied to take the test, Porter said. Of those, only 33 were able to and only 20 passed.

We'll have more later this week on Porter and how his know-how is benefiting Shelby.
