Weekend Crime Map

These are incidents and arrests that were recently on file with local law enforcement agencies. Those arrested are innocent until found guilty in a court of law. (M) refers to misdemeanor crimes, (F) refers to felonies.

ARRESTS

Address: 2505 New House Road, Ellenboro
Date of arrest: Aug. 4, 4:09 p.m.
Charges: Possession of a Schedule IV Controlled Substance (M)
Place of arrest: McDonald’s, 206 E. Dixon Blvd., Shelby
Bond: $300
Description: Police responded to McDonald’s after a report of two possibly intoxicated people in a green pickup truck. The pickup was pulled over and officers found an assortment of pills on Ms. Williams. She said some of the pills had not been prescribed to her.

INCIDENTS

Crime: Assault
Date reported: Aug. 3, 6:03 p.m.
Address: 200 Wal-Mart Drive, Shelby
Description: Benji Miller, a manager at the Wal-Mart Distribution Center, told police a black man came out of a van in the parking lot and asked Miller whether there were job openings. After Miller suggested the man come inside so someone could help him, the man punched Miller just above the left eye. The man drove off in a gray / silver van with several other people inside. Video of the assault showed the van had been parked 40 minutes before Miller went to leave the building, with the suspect immediately getting out of the vehicle when Miller appeared.

Crime: Breaking and entering / larceny
Date reported: Aug. 5, 6:11 p.m.
Address: 715 S. Dekalb St. Apt. 3B, Shelby
Description: Scotty Senters told police he left his apartment locked Saturday at 6 p.m. When he returned the next day, three guitars, an amplifier, 27-inch TV and a Sony PS2 video game console were missing.

Crime: Misc. Incident
Date reported: Aug. 5, 2:34 a.m.
Address: 211 Merit Drive, Shelby
Description: Dosil Puryear said she was standing on her front porch and heard a gunshot. Moments later, she saw a black man with a thin build, wearing a white shirt and red pants on a bicycle. Ms. Puryear’s black shepherd was shot in the front left leg and the bullet appeared to have struck a rear leg as well. Ms. Puryear told police the man on the bicycle was responsible.

Crime: Damage to property
Date reported: Aug. 3, 10:52 a.m.
Address: 296 W. Dixon Blvd., Shelby
Description: The building was reported spray painted. This follows several homes and businesses spray painted within the past week.

Crime: Breaking and entering
Date reported: Aug. 3, 7:09 a.m.
Address: Duke Energy, 1825 E. Dixon Blvd., Shelby
Description: Scott Mangum, of Duke Energy, reported that $3,500 in copper wire was reported stolen. Surveillance footage showed a white and black man entering the warehouse, cutting a lock and taking the copper.

Crime: Armed robbery
Date reported: Aug. 3, 11:05 p.m.
Address: Ingles, 1305 Fallston Road, Shelby
Description: A black man walked up to the customer service desk as employees were counting money, pulled out a gun and said “Give me the money. This ain’t no joke.” After taking money from the safe and a cash drawer, the suspect left in an unknown vehicle. The suspect reportedly had a bandana covering his mouth at the time of the robbery.
