Upcoming CrimeStoppers Meeting
The next monthly CrimeStoppers meeting will be held Monday at noon at Fidelity Bank beside the police department. With that in mind, I thought I might pass along the minutes from last month's meeting, which I just received from Secretary Karen Rhyne, to give you a better idea of what goes on for those unfamiliar with the group.
CrimeStoppers has quickly become, over the past year or two, a very valuable asset in solving city and county crimes.
The monthly meeting of Crime Stoppers was held on Monday, July 16, 2007 at noon in Fidelity Bank in Shelby NC..
President Gary Staymate called the meeting to order at 12:07pm.
Those present were: President Gary Staymate, Secretary Karen Rhyne, Michael Cheng, Cecil Burton, Tammy Endicott (Shelby City Police), Andy Andrews (Shelby Shopper), Shell Byars (SPD and former President) and Mike Poage. Treasurer Verna McCluney was on vacation.
Tammy Endicott presented a report on the tips received since the last meeting in June. There was a total of seven tips. One tip resulted in three arrests. The tip involved the robbery of Community Mart #3 in Fallston and D & N Mini Mart. Those arrested were Travis Terrill Coleman, Lindsey Sheree Barr and Rashon Archie. Crime Stoppers members voted to award the tipster a total of $1,000, which will be the largest amount awarded in 20 years. Other tips involved a shot fired around the Gold Street area, a robbery inside the shoe department in Walmart, a stolen purse at Aldi, assault on a female and communicating threats. Members also voted to pay a tipster $200 for a tip which lead to the arrest of Victor Wade. Officers are still working on other tips, and are looking for Doug Poston.
A breakdown of tips includes 33 for the Shelby Police Department, 10 for Cleveland County and 3 for Kings Mountain. There have been a record number of tips for 2007. 53 tips have been received thus far, which is on schedule to double those of last year, which totaled 46.
Balance on hand before payouts is $6,506.
Members voted for the stickers to be black and white. They are to be distributed to all area mini marts and grocery stores.
Mike Putnam of Mike's Flowers was added to the membership list.
President Gary Staymate adjourned the meeting at 12:40pm.
