Shelby PD's Bat Cave
Just got back from the Shelby Police sub-station at Cleveland Mall; I was speaking with Lt. Rick Stafford and Officer Shannon Porter about a few of their community policing efforts.
And then Porter, randomly, said there was a bat hanging upside down beside their back door.
"Nuh uh," I said.
"Yuh huh," he replied.
"Prove it," I said.
So he did.
See the little black speck beside the corner of the door? That's the bat in question.
FYI, this is the door located on the side of the mall near Five Guys and the movie theater.
After a few moments, it hung in place ... then saw us, stretched, and yawned.
This is the view from inside. Best I can tell, it's the sliver in-between the door and the frame.

LOL! I guess a mean bat must have been tailing him and he wanted some place safe to rest up. I wish I could have seen him yawn!
I have read before where bats need a lot of energy to sustain themselves, so I hope it finds something to eat in all of this dryness. I believe they eat insects. Also, if a bat has rabies, they are not normally aggressive as other species are. They sometimes become paralyzed and no one needs to try and remove them without wearing thick gloves.
I went out to Five Guys earlier and walked over to see if I could see the bat, but it was either gone, or else I was looking in the wrong place. But, a bat was flying around one of those lights up high, and "peeping."
