Shelby Crime Map



These are incidents and arrests that were recently on file with local law enforcement agencies. Those arrested are innocent until found guilty in a court of law. (M) refers to misdemeanor crimes, (F) refers to felonies.

INCIDENTS

Crime: Breaking and entering of a residence
Date reported: Nov. 1, 9:59 a.m.
Address: 712 W. Oak St.
Description: Vicky Horner told police that sometime between Oct. 31 at 11:30 p.m. and Nov. 1 and 9:45 a.m. someone broke into her home. Marlboro Light cigarettes were found in the home and a light fixture, table and dining room set were reported damaged. Damages were estimated at nearly $1,000.

Crime: Breaking and entering
Date reported: Nov. 5, 3:28 p.m.
Address: Shelby Storage Center, 612 Smith St.
Description: Manager Jeff Scism told police someone broke into five storage units at the business. Among the items reported stolen were three suitcases, clothing, a computer and monitor, red and black stereo, and two DVD players. The suspects implicated in the case were described as a black man and white woman.

Crime: Larceny
Date reported: Nov. 2, 1:01 p.m.
Address: 907 Glendale St.
Description: Julien Bridges Sr. told police he found his heat pump dismantled and the copper tubing stolen from inside. The theft caused $2,000 in damages to the heat pump and the copper stolen was valued at about $300.

Crime: Discharging a firearm into an occupied property
Date reported: Nov. 2, 11:17 a.m.
Address: 224 W. Shannonhouse St.
Description: Lola Mae Farmer told police someone shot into her home, damaging her wooden door frame.

Crime: Larceny
Date reported: Nov. 2, 9:57 a.m.
Address: Dockery’s Funeral Home, 605 Buffalo St.
Description: William Collie, of the business, told police someone stole a three and a half ton air conditioner unit from the funeral home sometime between Nov. at 3 p.m. and the following morning.

Crime: Damage to property
Date reported: Nov. 5, 11:22 a.m.
Address: 725 W. Marion St.
Description: A Dodge Ram at the residence was reportedly shot into, causing about $500 in damages to the windshield.

Crime: Breaking and entering
Date reported: Nov. 5, 9:50 a.m.
Address: Williams Electrical, 2119 E. Dixon Blvd.
Description: Terry Smith told police he returned to work and found three 18-wheeler trailers broken into and copper and copper line fitting had been stolen.Twenty wire rollers were also taken. The break-in caused about $550 in damages.

Crime: Robbery
Date reported: Nov. 2, 5:57 a.m.
Address: 606 E. Marion St.
Description: Madeline Allen, 43, told police a man and woman entered her home and robbed her. She said she knew the woman, armed with a gun and described as living on Palmer Street, but not the man. The man reportedly took her DVD player and more than $60 in cash was taken.

Crime: Misc. Incident
Date reported: Nov. 1, 11:47 p.m.
Address: 611 Ligon St.
Description: Police responded to the home after it caught fire. After firefighters extinguished the blaze, firefighters found evidence of cigarette use on the property. Documents state the resident of the home was recently evicted but was still staying there with no electricity and all her belongings were still inside the home.

Crime: Damage to property
Date reported: Nov. 1, 1:26 a.m.
Address: 301 and 305 S. Dekalb St.
Description: Two meter boxes outside the El Acapulco restaurant were reportedly tampered, causing $600 in damages.

Crime: Breaking and entering of residence
Date reported: Nov. 1, 10:42 a.m.
Address: 506 Durham St.
Description: Brian Hopper told police someone broke into his home and stole a Toshiba laptop, valued at over $650, and Playstation 2 video game controllers.

ARRESTS

Name: Sylvia Lenna Austin
Age: 36
Address: 700 Phillips St.
Date of arrest: Nov. 2, 5:37 p.m.
Charges: Food stamp fraud (F), obtain property by false pretenses (F)
Place of arrest: Home
Description: Austin was served with a warrant for her arrest.
Bond: $5,000 unsecured
